Eyedea & Abilities

Artist: Eyedea & Abilities
Album: By the Throat
Genre: Hip Hop/Rock

WARNING: If you like strictly Hip Hop, you prolly won’t dig this. If you like strictly Rock, you prolly won’t dig this. BUT if you can dig a divine combination of the two, then lend me ya ears for a few tics. Eyedea and Abilities is the duo that has found a happy median between the two genres of music.

Let’s take a trip into the abyss. Shall we? Better yet, lets sky dive. From the very opening, Eyedea and Abilities magnetically pull to exactly where they want you to go. Sky Diver is hypnosis by melody is all that is. Once you hypnotized, you are snapped out of it by lyricism, base kicks, snares, symbols, symbols, symbols & even more symbols. Yo, the symbols on this track are sick!

Here are a few other cuts on the album. Spin Cycle, which demonstrates live or seemingly live drums and guitars. Eyedea raps lyrics with a rock song layout & delivers his verses with a powerful punch. Another goodie is Time Flies When You Have A Gun. It is a pseudo song/interlude & there’s this one snare that’s all over the place and it is BAD ASS.

By the Throat is similar to an interracial couple that both the male & female in this relationship can dig Rock & Hip Hop. Though the couple may not be “mainstream”, they make it work. On the surface, it may not be for everyone, but if you give it a try, you may be introduced to worlds unknown. AND you might like it. I was talking about the music, not interracial dating. Okay, I was talking about both.
